50 years of community health
In the 1970s a group of progressive doctors approached the estate’s community-led Tenants Union and together they came up with the idea of a health centre that didn’t just provide vital medical services, but also fostered and supported the community.
1974
Founded 1974
Based on Wurundjeri land, health and wellbeing support for the diverse needs of the 4,000 strong community members of the Langdon Park Ministry of Housing estate commenced.
2012
A new location
Opened at a new location and was given an Aboriginal name by Wurundjeri Senior Elder Doreen Garvey-Wandin: Wulempuri-Kertheba, which translates from Woi wurrung as ‘staying healthy together’ .
2019
Medically Supervised Injecting Room
Opens the state's first Medically Supervised Injecting Room. Its primary purpose to save lives and connect people to many critical health and social support services.
2020
Covid19 Response
In extraordinary circumstances, and with the support of community employees speaking 15 different languages, 100% of the North Richmond Estate residents were vaccinated.
