About the role
We’re looking for a passionate Harm Reduction Practitioner (Consulting Only) to join our Integrated Care team in a casual capacity. This role does not include duties in the Medically Supervised Injecting Room (MSIR) injecting space and does not involve supervising injecting or clinical procedures. Instead, this is a consulting focused role, supporting clients through therapeutic assessments, harm reduction education, and coordinated care planning.
The Integrated Care zone at MSIR offers wrap around, trauma informed support to people who are affected by drug use. The Integrated Care Zone is a drop-in harm reduction space with big heart, providing access to things like Opiate Agonist Therapy (OAT), BBV testing, housing support, AOD counselling, and legal and health services.
This is your chance to make a meaningful impact, supporting people who use drugs with dignity, respect, and a fierce commitment to harm reduction.
About you
You’re someone who brings clinical skill, emotional intelligence, and genuine care to every interaction. You’ve got strong experience working with people who use drugs and you’re comfortable providing brief and comprehensive AOD assessments in a dynamic, community focused environment.
You thrive in multi-disciplinary teams, are confident coordinating with a broad network of AOD services, and you understand that small moments of human connection can be as powerful as formal interventions. You know harm reduction is not just a strategy, it’s a philosophy.
Key responsibilities
• Provide therapeutic AOD assessments, brief interventions, care planning, and secondary consultations
• Offer harm reduction advice and education tailored to clients’ needs and goals
• Consult with Integrated Nurses and Nurse Practitioners on treatment responses
• Support the coordination of wrap around services across AOD, mental health, housing, and legal supports
• Observe and monitor client wellbeing in the Integrated Care Area and act on relevant alerts or plans
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Build strong referral pathways and collaborative relationships across the sector
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the service
What you’ll bring
• Relevant qualifications in AOD or related field (Cert IV in AOD or core competencies desirable)
• Experience in AOD assessment, case coordination, and working with people who inject drugs
• Understanding of trauma informed care and harm reduction principles
• Excellent interpersonal, advocacy, and collaborative skills
• Ability to work flexibly, independently, and as part of a supportive team
• Commitment to client centred, non-judgemental, and inclusive practice
Join us
At our heart, we believe in healthcare that’s built on trust and community services that meet people where they are. If you’re someone who’s ready to walk alongside people and be part of a team that makes a difference every day, we’d love to hear from you.
